Baby swift…

Well, yesterday me and my boyfriend left the house only to find a poor little swift chick lying in the floor. I could see that it had fallen from next doors roof, but suprisingly it was still alive and didn’t seem to be injured! I picked it up, trying not to handle it too much as the mother will reject it if it smells like humans, and placed it in the shade away from harm.

Unfortunately I had to leave for work and couldn’t really do much else for it which was heartbreaking! I hate having to leave wild animals to fend for themselves because that’s the best thing you can do for them. The RSPCA wasn’t much help either, as they just said because it had feathers it’s probably trying to fly and we should leave it where it is and the mother will feed it even though it’s left the nest. Well I can say what a load of fooie that is! For a start off swift’s can’t easily take off from the ground and also how’s the mother going to fend off cats and whatnot from it’s chick.

So anyway, I came home and suprisingly it was still there panting as fast as it could and even looked back at me when I got closer to see if it was ok. Again I had to leave it, although I did think it would be awesome to have a pet swift but that’s a bad idea lol. Also, I thought that perhaps the mother was looking after it seen as it was stil rather alert.

However, it seems to have disappeared this morning and even though it’s envitable that the wondering black cat has eaten it, I’d like to think that maybe it got away safely…
